Sánchez on his shoes: "The skulls that you see on my shoes were inspired by the Mexican Sugar Skull, which is a nationally recognized symbol and the hallmark of one of Mexico’s most celebrated holidays – Día de Los Muertos – where we honor those who have passed away. On the side of the skull’s head are marigolds, which are used to decorate the graves of those who havepassed during the celebration of Día de los Muertos. The cheekbones are accented by corn, or “maíz”—Mexico’s lifeblood; and the pupils of the eyes are shaped like spoons. You will see elements of the Mexican flag in the logo on the heel."

"This shoe is much more subtle in its styling than the Red Skull, Patria and the D.O.D. though it retains many of the same cultural touch points. In the restaurant business, I know that black shoes are still part of the go-to uniform, so I wanted to be sure that someone who had that requirement could still wear something with some flair, even if it has to be more muted. This way, people can still enjoy a shoe made with quality ingredients, but they can bring a new sense of style and culture with them on a more subtle level."
